Sustainable Union Renewal
Many times teachers feel powerless to achieve their goals in their classrooms, both for their students and for themselves. Through initiating processes to make our union structures more accessible and comprehensible to our members, our collective voice will be powerful and it will be heard.
Working Conditions
In my own career I have experienced cutbacks in classroom supports and services. With the COVID pandemic exacerbating our already difficult working conditions, there is an urgent need to see real time improvements. We are public education – so much rests on our shoulders that we can not afford to do with less. As a hopeful member of the BCTF EC, improving the working conditions of our membership is a priority.
Transparency
While I am not a perfect human being, the principles of justice, integrity, honesty and courage are four qualities that guide my decision making process. The traditional teachings passed on to me by my elders encourage me to be a servant of the people. With the aim to serve, I rely on these qualities to assess what next steps need to be taken. As the BCTF continues to restructure itself to best serve its members, I will constantly consider how justice and integrity can be incorporated into the organization and framework.
